Steven was named one of The Stage 100 listed among the most influential people in theatre—for his transformative work on the Diversity School Initiative, Black Theatre Club, and This Is Black Festival at the Bunker Theatre. Working closely with Deadline reporter Jake Kanter, Steven supported an investigation into bullying, misconduct, and toxicity at ArtsEd. The resulting Deadline article trended across social media, gained coverage from multiple news outlets, and proved instrumental in driving widespread and necessary change at the school. It ushered in a new approach to supporting both staff and students, reflecting Steven’s ongoing commitment to diversifying drama schools and ensuring that training environments are safe for all. Diversity School Initiative Report, The Stage
The report, published by the Diversity School Initiative—founded in 2016 by Maame Atuah, Mumba Dodwell, and Steven Kavuma—highlights ongoing issues of under-representation, limited access, and lack of diversity in UK drama schools. Findings uncovered by The Stage reveal widespread reports from students detailing entrenched racism, casting bias, and systemic harassment throughout their training. Read here.
